A non- return valve is a type of pipe fitting that protects pipelines, pumps and other equipment to prevent the backflow of the working medium.

The principle of operation of the check valve is based on the automatic blocking of the passage by a gate or disk under the influence of the reverse flow of the working medium. The working medium, which moves in a certain direction, due to the inlet pressure, lifts the valve shutter by its own weight or with the help of additional devices (for example, springs), and when the inlet pressure decreases, the valve closes the passage, thereby closing the valve. At the same time, the force of the flow of the working medium at the outlet of the check valve creates a force on the shutter and does not allow it to open.

Check valves are used:

- in housing and communal services - on the supply of hot and cold water in apartment buildings;
- at the cold water inlet when installing electric and gas water heaters;
- when piping pumps and pumping stations;
- when tying steam condensate equipment, etc.

Check valves are subdivided according to the following criteria: according to the type of connection to the pipeline, according to the type of valve design, according to the body material.

Below is an example of the classification of check valves according to the type of connection .

- flange check valves . The check valve is connected to the pipeline using a flange connection;
-threaded (coupling) check valves . The non-return valve is connected through a thread to the pipeline;
- wafer check valves . The compact dimensions (small installation length) and the weight of the check valves allow them to be installed in any position between the flanges on the pipeline.
